The Kuring-gai

Immersed in Mona Vale’s thriving village, this collection of residences offers the perfect balance of urban convenience, relaxed coastal lifestyle and absolute tranquility.

Inspired by the rolling curves and sparkling whitewash of the ocean, Maya brings pared-back elegance to its surrounds. The feature brickwork creates gentle light play from sunrise to sunset. The way the material responds to light enables a reading of depth with light and shadow. The hit and miss arrangement of the brick allows for a diffuse dappled light and provides privacy to the occupants and maintains a human scale.
Inspired by the beach with a deep connection to the coast
Responding to the essence of Mona Vale’s coastal lifestyle, there’s a generosity to the architecture that is hard to find elsewhere.

As a material the white brick has characteristics that both highlight the sculptural nature of the proposal, articulated through large sweeping curves, and also offers a finer grain that is tactile and textural in nature. The palette is calm and neutral, inspired by beach tones. The curving geometry provides a rhythm that punctuates the façade and creates a unique sense of place for the occupants.
A central open courtyard at it's core
Carefully considered gardens frame the façade with vibrant foliage, giving an element of softness to the building’s natural hues. The design response was inspired by the character, texture and grain of the Mona Vale precinct. This is carried through in form, articulation, and materiality through careful consideration of the composition of these elements.

Maya’s light-filled interiors extend the surrounding environment, effortlessly inviting light and air into each space. Feature walls of warm, neutral tones and smooth textures capture the bleached hues of Mona Vale beach while quality finishes like natural stone joinery and timber floors evoke timeless sophistication.

The residences are articulated through curved forms which are elevated and set back from the street. A band of planting wrapping around the façade above the retail level offers a break from the vibrancy of the street below and offers a sense of respite.
